Abbeyfield welcomes the support of its volunteers. They come from all walks of life and bring a broad range of skills into the Abbeyfield homes.

Quorn is a caring and socially responsible community. Many people have the skills we need to keep Holloway House running efficiently and continuing to provide an environment in which elderly people can lead an active and fulfilling life.

But it's not just our residents who are ageing! Our volunteers also get older and we need to recruit new blood to ensure that Holloway House and the Abbeyfield ethos continues to thrive. Even if you only have a few hours a month to offer, please get in touch. You will be made most welcome.

We're not asking for something-for-nothing. You will get the benefit of the 'feel-good' factor which every volunteer knows comes with the buzz of putting something of real worth back into the community you live in! If you doubt its value, drop in at Holloway House sometime and look at the contentment on the faces of our residents.

Many of the residents in Holloway House have moved from familiar surroundings and neighbours to be nearer to their relatives who live in Quorn or nearby, and the 'Friends' are a small group of people from the village who seek to welcome them, co-operating with the staff to help them integrate into their new community.

We visit and share coffee time, joining in conversations and reminiscences. We organise outings, coffee mornings, whist drives and other events in the house and sometimes in the village.

Birthdays are remembered and at Christmas we decorate the house and provide presents. We help with shopping and visits to hospitals if a resident unfortunately is admitted.

We arrange flowers in the house. Outside we plant bulbs, plants and ornamental pots and we raise money for 'extras' such as garden furniture.

We also have access to a community minibus for local outings.

In short, the Friends do everything they can to help enrich the lives of the residents of Holloway House.
